I receive a call from Elsie, the director of nursing in the small
hospital where I used to work. She wants me to be part of a
committee who works with dying people. Six days before they die,
I am to be available to these people either in person, or by
phone in order to give them the support they need. I tell Elsie
I no longer work at the hospital, nor even in the medical field.
She says it doesn't matter that she had called me because of my
people skills, not because of my work background. I greatly
hesitate, think it would be depressing, that I don't have the
time to give and I more or less grudgingly accept.
